Goeie dag Zonia,

Baie simpatie. Dit is baie erg. Dink aan jou en familie.

Louis was ‘n baie besonderse mens. Hy het regtig voluit geleef!!! Sal hom baie mis.

Groete,

Hi Zonia

We celebrate his life and mourn his passing

Baie sterkte
Elsa (van die sondag groep)

    Tribute to Louis Nel

    Hi Ken

Thank you for letting us know.

I can’t imagine how you (and especially poor Lammie) must feel, after so many years of running together. Our club was obviously stunned at tonight’s Time Trial. I live a couple of blocks away from Danie Krugel, so, I take him home after the time trials, and he was devastated and still in tears. You will know that Louis generously gave Danie (and many other people – including Simon, also from our club) employment and dignity.

I personally was also a beneficiary of his generosity, hosting his company’s Web site for many years, before he sold it. It’s such a pity that he didn’t manage to first get to that mountain in Peru – but he had at least had the satisfaction of Everest, Kilimanjaro and many other challenges – including running challenges – and had seen a lot of the World, particularly through his passion for Bonsai.

Like yourself, I have always admired Louis’ running talent at his age. I can remember once pitching up to support a Saturday morning club run, many years ago, as part of my Committee duties, and he was the only one who turned up! But he was (as usual) completely unphased and kindly decided to join a club run that he knew a neighbouring club was having at about the same time, with no fuss or a word of complaint about the others who failed to pitch.

I have always had a HUGE amount of respect and admiration for Louis and his quiet, peaceful demeanour and his generosity and approach to life. He was to me the epitome of a GENTLEMAN and we’ll all miss him terribly.

    Liewe Zonia

    Gerhard Koornhof.
